Myers Family Scholarship Fund

TYPE OF FUND: Scholarship

DATE ESTABLISHED: August 2023

PURPOSE: To provide a scholarship to a deserving Tucker County student, preferably one who will attend Potomac State College, with preference given to students going into the Mental Health and Addiction Studies Program.  If no student meets that criteria, then a student from Preston County will be chosen.  If there are no students from either county who will be in the Mental Health and Addiction Studies Program, then a student studying Psychology will be selected as the recipient.  If there are no students from Tucker or Preston Counties attending Potomac State College who are studying in either of these two programs, then a student from another county in the TCF service area may be selected, following the same criteria and guidelines.

DISTRIBUTION: On the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee and final approval by the Board of Directors of TCF.

VARIANCE POWER: If, in the judgment of the TCF Board of Directors, the restrictions and conditions of the fund become unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment, or inconsistent with the charitable needs of the community, the TCF Board of Directors maintains the right to modify the terms of this fund.

BACKGROUND: Walter Myers was born and raised in Tucker County. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1961. After graduation, Mr. Myers served in the United States Army. In February 1966, he married his wife, Vivian, who was raised in Rowlesburg, Preston County. Walter and Vivian later moved to Charleston, West Virginia, where Walter worked in the telecommunications industry. They had four children: Tania, Walter II, Nadia, and Adam. Walter Roy Myers II passed away in April 2015, and Adam Ryan Myers passed away in September 2017. The Myers family is creating this scholarship fund in memory of Walter II and Adam.
