Harry R. & Candy Sommerville Mathematics Scholarship Fund

The Harry R. & Candy B. Sommerville Mathematics Scholarship Fund, established in August 2021, provides a scholarship to a deserving Tucker County student pursuing a degree in mathematics or a related field, with strict exclusions for education or arts majors. If no Tucker County students qualify, applicants from the eight counties served by the Tucker Community Foundation will be considered.

TYPE OF FUND: Scholarship

DATE ESTABLISHED: August 2021

PURPOSE: To provide a scholarship to a deserving Tucker County student who will be attending college in the field of mathematics or a related field. If no students from Tucker County qualify, then the scholarship will be opened up to all eight counties that the Tucker Community Foundation serves. The donors have specified that at no time do they wish to have this scholarship awarded to an education or arts major.

DISTRIBUTION: On the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee and final approval by the Board of Directors of TCF.

VARIANCE POWER: If, in the judgment of the TCF Board of Directors, the restrictions and conditions of the fund become unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment, or inconsistent with the charitable needs of the community, the TCF Board of Directors maintains the right to modify the terms of this fund.

FUNDING: Initial funding provided by Harry R. & Candy B. Sommerville to establish the fund.
