BACKGROUND: Floyd M. Ball had a passion for teaching and dedicated 44 years to the profession, finishing his career as a sixth-grade teacher at Parsons Grade School. Born on June 30, 1888, in Clemtown, Barbour County, Ball began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse at the age of 16.

Shortly after, he moved with his family to Bull Run, Tucker County, where he met his wife, Leona E. Ball. They married when Ball was 24 years old and lived on a small farm on Blackman Flats until his passing in 1972.

Ball briefly left teaching to work as an insurance salesman but soon returned to education, where his true passion remained.
