Buena Chapel Cemetery Fund

The Buena Chapel Cemetery Fund supports the ongoing maintenance and beautification of the Buena Chapel Cemetery in Canaan Valley, West Virginia.

TYPE OF FUND: Cemetery Preservation Sub-Fund / Field of Interest

DATE ESTABLISHED: September 24, 2004

PURPOSE: For the maintenance and beautification of the Buena Chapel Cemetery located in Canaan Valley, WV.

DISTRIBUTION: Upon the recommendation of the Grants Committee, and approval by the Board of Directors of TCF.

VARIANCE POWER: If, in the judgment of the TCF Board of Directors, the restrictions and conditions of the fund become unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment or inconsistent with the charitable needs of the community, the TCF Board of Directors maintains the right to modify the terms of this fund. TCF has exclusive legal control over any contributed assets.

FUNDING: A donation of $5,000 was made by Ronald and Juanita Leone Linkous in memory and honor of her parents, Martha and Dale Ault.

BACKGROUND: The original donor of the fund, Juanita Leona Ault Linkous of Bushwood, MD, is a native of Tucker County and a 1951 graduate of Davis High School. Mr. Linkous is a native of Beckley, WV.

Juanita’s parents, Dale and Martha Propst Ault, were lifelong residents of Tucker County. Mrs. Ault was born in Hendricks and her family moved to Canaan Valley before she was old enough to begin school. Mr. and Mrs. Ault were the parents of three daughters: Mrs. Linkous, the late Ruth Smith, and the late Audrey Eileen Reed, whose only child currently resides on the family farm in Red Creek.

Mrs. Ault was a homemaker. She died in June 1993. Her husband drove a school bus and retired from the West Virginia Division of Highways. He died in March 1982. Many members of Mrs. Linkous’ family, including her parents, grandparents, two sisters, her first husband, a son, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins are buried in the Buena Chapel Cemetery.
