BACKGROUND: Katherine Zabriskie moved to Canaan after retiring from IBM. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan and earned her graduate degree from American University. She was deeply involved in the community, serving as a member and Junior Warden of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Deer Park, MD, and was an active member of several organizations, including the Sports Car Club of America (Washington, DC Region), the Timberline Homeowners Association, the Amateur Operators of the American Radio Relay League, and the Canaan Valley Women’s Club of Davis, WV, where she also served as president.

Zabriskie was particularly dedicated to the Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department and its Auxiliary. Her passion for community service led her to leave a lasting legacy that ensures ongoing support for local emergency services. The Rev. Dr. Chip Lee, her pastor, described her impact, stating, “Kathy was active in many community service agencies and projects, and her legacy lives on in her various bequests to family and organizations. Because of her concern for the safety and well-being of her neighbors, the Canaan Valley Fire Department and the Rescue Squad will have much-needed, ongoing support through the efforts of the Tucker Community Foundation. So many ongoing projects will be helped long-term because Kathy cared so much for the people of this area.”

Katherine Zabriskie passed away in 2010 at the age of 69, leaving behind a meaningful contribution that continues to benefit the Canaan Valley community.
