Crimson Shamrock Literacy Fund

The Crimson Shamrock Literacy Fund, established in 2013, provides funding for projects aimed at improving literacy and eradicating illiteracy in West Virginia, supported by donations from individuals and institutions committed to education.

DATE ESTABLISHED: Initiated December 2013

PURPOSE: To provide project funds for activities that will lead to the improvement of literacy in West Virginia.

DISTRIBUTION: To be awarded to projects designed to improve literacy and eradicate illiteracy in West Virginia upon the recommendation of the Grants Committee and the approval of the TCF Board of Directors. The award decision is to be based upon the value of the project for improving literacy and eliminating illiteracy in West Virginia. The Board may use applications and point structures in selecting recipients.

VARIANCE POWER: If, in the judgment of the TCF Board of Directors, the restrictions and conditions of the fund become unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment, or inconsistent with the charitable needs of the community, the TCF Board of Directors maintains the right to modify the terms of this fund.

FUNDING: Donations are accepted from individuals and institutions wishing to promote literacy and eradicate illiteracy in the state of West Virginia.

BACKGROUND: Dr. David Dunstan Moran and Ms. Lori Leigh Wall are residents of Eglon, West Virginia. They own and operate the Crimson Shamrock Ranch, raising Suri Alpaca and Wensleydale Sheep exclusively for the fine natural fiber market. The farm spans 120 acres of mountain land, and they continue to serve the community through professional and civic activities.

Both are professional engineers with postgraduate educations who believe that the future of all humanity, especially in West Virginia’s mountain region, depends on full literacy for all residents and the continued education and support of all human areas of endeavor.
